We, the friends of Dave, built this site with a primary goal in mind: to find him a kidney donor. Please take a little
time from your day to read his story. You or someone you know may be the hero we have been looking for.
Futhermore, this site serves a larger purpose by providing education on the topic of organ donation. We also hope to generate a list of potential living-donors who are influenced by Dave's story.
All donations and proceeds from the savedave.orgstore will go towards the David Kaemmerling Kidney Fund which will finance any expenses
the donor will endure (travel, food, etc.) and any portions of the surgery that are not covered by Dave's insurance company. Any remaining expenses will go to Dave and his wife to help minimize their sizable medical bills.
7/25/06: Dave is still healthy with his donated kidney. A very tight bond has developed between Dane and Dave to this day.
10/30/02: 'Long' and 'emotional' are but a couple words that might summarize yesterday's events. At roughly 12:00pm, Dane Sorenson was wheeled into surgery to remove his right kidney in a transplant procedure experience that was unlike anything any of us onlookers had ever witnessed before. A short time later, Dave was prepped for surgery to receive the kidney. Several hours later we were told by Dave and Dane's surgeons that the operations had gone completely according to plan with no complications. Late in the evening, it appeared from preliminary testing that Dave's new kidney was functioning. Further testing throughout today will provide us with a better insight to the success of the kidney transplant. As this monumental chapter closes in a book exhibiting perseverance and personal triumph, Dane and Dave are in our prayers. A new chapter opens as they begin their journey down the road to recovery, a process in which we wish them both a speedy journey as we hope to see them home again soon.
In the coming weeks, SaveDave.org will present a video documentary, including footage taken before and after the operations, outlining this tremendous experience in hopes that it can be of benefit to future donors and recipients. We will certainly keep you updated as we progress.
10/14/02: Great news has arrived - less than a year after being diagnosed with kidney failure, a donor has been identified and approved by Dave's doctors by passing all tests with flying colors. Dave will go into surgery to receive his kidney on October 29th. Best wishes to Dave and his donor!
9/13/02: We would like to recognize the handful of individuals who are incompatible with Dave, but have stepped forward to indicate their interest in donating a kidney to one of the other 50,000 people awaiting a donor. That is truly amazing. If you are interested in pursuing this path, we will accept your information here.
9/10/02: Roughly two months since the launch of this site in July, approximately ten individuals, all unrelated to Dave, have come forward to initiate the process of kidney donation. The procedure is not a short one and the likelihood of a high level of compatibility between
unrelated individuals is significantly diminished. However, our prayers are with Dave and these donors in the hope that a compatible match will be made. We will keep you updated.
